Lackland ISD Students Honor Fallen Troops at Ft. Sam Houston

The Stacey Student 2 Student group in Lackland ISD hosted a school-wide service project in November and December. The group sold wreaths at school and to their families, and then they attended the traditional wreath-laying ceremony honoring fallen troops at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The students and families learned that after laying the wreath it is important to stand back, say the person’s name, and give them a moment of silence. The student group placed 700 wreaths at the cemetery for this unforgettable occasion!

Northside ISD Breaks Ground for New High School

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Northside ISD’s 12th comprehensive high school located on Galm Road. The currently unnamed school is also designed to include courtyards for outdoor learning and creative centers for students.

Southside ISD Offers College Credit Starting in the 9th Grade

Losoya Middle School and Matthey Middle School 8th graders have the opportunity to enroll in  Southside ISD’s Early College High School Program.  Parents are invited to attend informational meetings at each school, and students are encouraged to take advantage of this valuable district benefit.

The program begins for students during the summer before they enter the 9th grade and continues until they graduate from high school.  They attend college classes through Palo Alto College at the same time they are taking high school classes.  The program can save up to two years of college tuition, and books and fees are included for free.  Many students graduate with an associate’s degree at the time of their high school graduation, making them ready for the workforce and future careers.
