David Padilla is a p1opular teacher at one of South San ISD’s four specialty academies. Students at the STEM Academy at Dwight Middle School praise Mr. Padilla for his hands-on and engaging lessons and project-based assignments. Mr. Padilla encourages girls to get excited about STEM, and he communicates to all of his students that failure is part of learning.
Southwest ISD’s Centers for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) STEM school is located at Legacy High School. The students in CAST STEM enjoy hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving as they follow the educational pathway that best interests them. They can choose from courses in engineering, advanced manufacturing, energy & power, or global logistics.
CAST STEM has a partnership with Palo Alto College, where students have the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree by the time they graduate from high school. CAST graduates are guaranteed at least one job interview with the school’s industry partners and mentors.
