U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro visited South San Antonio ISD as he came to tour our Pre-K/Headstart Program. South San Antonio ISD was recently awarded $1,431,486.00 for Head Start Programs, which includes 16 Head Start classrooms and dual-education classrooms throughout the District.
“Always believe in yourself, and surround yourself with people who also believe in you,” Castro expressed.
Castro, alongside Superintendent Henry Yzaguirre and our leadership team, were able to interact with our students and have an inside look at the classroom dynamic. Students with different needs and levels of development are able to be prioritized due to funds allocated through our Head start Services (HSS) grant.
When questioned about the importance of Head start/Pre-K programs, Castro vocalized that he co-founded the Congressional Pre-K and Child Care Caucus at the beginning of his career, and it centers around examining early education and child care, exploring best practice programs, and developing policy recommendations to improve early education.
Thank you to U.S Congressman Joaquin Castro for visiting Hutchins Elementary School and touring our Pre-Kinder classes! We appreciate you advocating for our district and emphasizing the importance of education at SSAISD!
