Dickinson ISD middle school, Dunbar Middle School, participated in Sandy Hook Promise’s “Start with Hello” week.
This program is designed to teach students and educators to have empathy for fellow students and staff members, build new connection, and create a sense of belonging.
Dunbar Middle School got involved with the 6-12th grade program where they watched educational videos, and read a part of a handbook as a call to action on ending social isolation. After the nationwide Start with Hello week ended, Dunbar Middle School created fun theme days to continue making an impact on students. For example, Find a Friend Friday, where students were meant to find another student/staff member who was dressed similarly, as well Tie Dye and Keep the Peace, where students were encouraged to wear their favorite tie dye shirts.
