Former Judson Athlete Now a Favorite Randolph Field ISD Coach
Coach Matthew Atwell turned his passion for sports and his history at Judson ISD into a career as a beloved coach and school leader in Randolph Field ISD. KENS5 News awarded Atwell their EXCEL Award.
Building Relationships in Athletics and Special Needs
Atwell serves as the Special Education Department Head for 9-12th grades, the Football Coach, Assistant Powerlifting Coach, Assistant Track Coach, and Senior Class Sponsor at Randolph Field High School.
Atwell says being shaped by coaches and teachers like those at Judson drove him to give back.
He says that being able to learn a lot of ideas and principles through his high school career and being able to be the one implementing it now is really awesome. “And getting to teach not just football but life lessons. Because that’s what it’s really about.”
Superintendent Dr. Brian Holt stated, “He listens to those around him and listens to the kids. That’s a huge thing for young people as someone who takes the time to listen to them.”
“Whether it’s in the classroom or the football field I want the kids to know I care about them. I want the kids to know they have someone to talk to,” Atwell said.
