ACADEMIC AND EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS

San Antonio-area’s public school districts recognize that each student is unique and special. A student’s involvement in their own educational path can be a contributing factor to success.  Throughout San Antonio’s public schools, a wide array of programs, extracurricular clubs, pathways, and specialized schools provide students choices to match their interests.  This level of involvement, also called child or student-led learning, is seen when parents and children work together to create the child’s academic plans.

San Antonio’s traditional public schools provide a variety of project-based academic programs including Career and Technical Education (CTE), Gifted and Talented, Dual Language, Dual Credit, STEAM or STEM, as well as a multitude of after school programs and projects.  Students will gain skills and knowledge in business and trade programs like Information Technology, Film/Video Production, Animation, Culinary Arts, Automotive Technology, Floral Design, Health Sciences, Fashion Design, etc.  Even more, students can graduate high school with college credits and/or associate’s degrees, and industry certifications.

Business Programs in public schools

The San Antonio-area ISDs offer a total of 180 academic and extracurricular programs including, Athletics, Career, and Technical (CTE), Dual Language, Gifted and Talented, Pre-K, Special Education, STEM, and much more!

San Antonio’s public schools, throughout the Independent School Districts (or ISDs), also offer team sports and extracurricular clubs.  Students are introduced to leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and more.  From volleyball, wrestling, track and field, to fishing, diving, and soccer, school athletics and team sports cover a wide variety.  Students interested in speech, debate, band, drama, agriculture, graphic arts and more will find opportunities to learn and participate. As they join other students with common interests, they can build social skills and learn how to work in group settings.

CHOICES AND OPPORTUNITIES

The wide variety of programs offered in San Antonio’s public schools support student-led choices. As a result, students may easily find their niche, develop their passions and talents, learn through hands-on experience, and open up their minds to what their futures could hold. In addition, valuable life skills might be acquired along the way.
