The San Antonio Fire Department had the privilege of bringing their program “Hero Like Her” to the young athletes of Judson ISD at Judson Middle School.
The “Hero Like Her” program consists of SAFD female firefighters teaching young women about the career of firefighting with hands-on experience. The All-Woman crew also spoke to the young athletes about the “Hero Like Her” program.
The all-woman crew taught the girl athlete’s important life-saving techniques just in case of an emergency. The firefighters then demonstrated each technique to show the proper way to form it. Then, young athletes also had the opportunity to try on firefighters uniforms and practice the previous techniques they learned. During this hands-on experience, the athletes were taught abdominal thrust maneuvers and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
