Lackland ISD art club students recognized for their inspired sculpture
Art is a creative way to express yourself without words, and Lackland ISD’s 4th and 5th grade art club used their creativity for a program sponsored by the McNay Museum of Art called “Spotlight”. This program helps students and teachers through the artistic process with hands-on experience. The students put their own spin on a sculpture inspired by Willie Cole called the “Sole Sitter”, which is an assortment of high heels scaled up to create a person sitting down.
Over 30 schools ranging from elementary to high school participated in the program. 14 schools, including Lackland Elementary, were chosen to have their art pieces displayed in the main patio gallery in the McNay Museum. Several students were honored at the recognition ceremony for their art. The program offers a valuable experience for students who aspire to become future artists to find inspiration in everyday life.
