Cleveland High School’s AFJROTC unit proudly presented the colors at the Texas Soccer Showdown between rivals Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas. This event not only highlighted their ceremonial duties but also offered cadets a unique opportunity to fly for 30-minute orientation flights in Cessna aircraft provided by the Civil Air Patrol.
The AFJROTC program at Cleveland High School emphasizes citizenship, leadership, and aerospace education, fostering qualities of self-reliance and discipline among students. Through community service and a comprehensive curriculum in air and space fundamentals, the program aims to develop well-rounded individuals to be prepared for future challenges.
The Texas Soccer Showdown, also known as the Texas Derby, holds cultural significance as it determines the annual keeper of El Capitán, a revered symbol in the rivalry between Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas. Historically, FC Dallas has dominated, holding El Capitán in their stadium for five of the last six years. Participation in this event reinforces AFJROTC’s commitment to ceremonial duties and enhances their educational journey, reflecting the excitement and camaraderie shared by participants and fans.
