Northside ISD Provides Fun, Educational Summer Camp Programs
Northside ISD students have fun and learn new things at summer camp programs.
With summer comes different kinds of summer camps for kids to stay mentally and physically active. Northside ISD provides multiple camps for children of all grades. The Elementary ESL Newcomer Program is for recent immigrant students in grades 1-5 who have not had formal schooling and have only been in the U.S for 1-2 years. A few of the topics taught within the program are learning how to dial 911 and about other emergency services throughout the community, the food bank, and historic parks like The Alamo. Students are able to work on fun projects that help them learn about the various topics taught throughout the program.
Another fun camp that NISD provides is the STEM Sisters Summer Camp. The camp allows incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls to learn about STEM related fields while also doing fun activities. Women are often underrepresented in the STEM field, and this program is a great way to bring awareness and hopefully spark some interest. One of the activities included how to safely remove an invasive species called the cane toad through engineering technology. This project and others combine science with real world engineering problems to create fun and educational hands-on experience for students.
