Southside ISD Teachers Participate in Project-Based Learning Workshop at Rice University
Teachers at Southside ISD participate in a learning workshop at Rice University.
Teachers often learn as much as they teach, and three Southside ISD teachers experienced a “once-in-a-lifetime” professional development workshop at Rice University. Nellie Olvera, a first grade teacher at Freedom Elementary, and Naomi Taylor and Guillermo Zavala, teachers at Menchaca Early Childhood Center, participated in a Project-Based Learning workshop at the Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education. This 6 day/5 night workshop allows for educators to live in the dormitories on the Rice University campus. Educators interact with professors and collaborate on projects with fellow educators in attendance. By the end of the workshop, educators are able to view real world issues that academics and corporations face and apply the methods learned to address those problems.
