Dr. Gibson comes from a family of educators. Both his parents were educators, which inevitably led him to the profession. Dr. Gibson is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators where he serves on the Legislative Committee, is a member of the Visioning Institute, and a mentor superintendent. As a founding member of the Visioning Institute, Dr. Gibson was one of 35 superintendents in Texas to describe a path out of the misuse of standardized testing into new learning standards for the digital generation as well as transforming our schools from bureaucracies to learning organizations. Dr. Gibson also serves as an officer for the Fast Growth School Coalition of Texas. This organization studies and promotes the unique interests of the fastest growing schools in Texas. SCUC is currently one of the fastest growing districts in the San Antonio area and the State of Texas. In 2015, Dr. Gibson was appointed by U.S. Department of Commerce to serve on the Panel of Judges for the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige Award, and in 2016, Dr. Gibson was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve as a Trustee for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. As a superintendent, Dr. Gibson feels honored to serve with such a highly-engaged staff in a one-of-akind community.
