To keep Fort Sam Houston Elementary remote learners connected, these dedicated FSHISD librarians planned dozens of storybook read-alouds and started a drive-through library book pickup.

Northside ISD librarians from Clark, O’Connor, and Brandeis High Schools created an online bookclub. Students virtually met with publishing industry insiders to learn about careers in the publishing world.

The “Dewey Know What’s On Our Shelves” video series was created to give some of Northside ISD’s at-home learners a virtual tour of the Clark High School library shelves. The school’s librarian also organized a mobile pop-up library for remote learners to have books brought closer to their homes.
Getting Students Excited about Reading

At Harlandale ISD’s Kingsborough Middle School, students accumulate points for reading to buy computer lab time, work with the 3D printer, or lunch with their librarian.

Dual Language Herff Academy in San Antonio ISD won the Read to the Final Four contest, and the students are continuing to make reading a priority even after the contest ended!
Beyond the Typical Library
HEATHER SEWELL-Librarian- MLS
Alvin ISD’s Hood-Case Elementary library brings exciting things into the space like live Monarch caterpillars. The librarians get to know every student in the school and tailor their book choices to students’ interests. Children are engaged in reading and listening to books read aloud, and they get to participate in a Nerf war if they read required books.

O’Connor High School is one of Northside ISD’s schools that participate in the annual author festival for teens, LibraryPalooza: That Author Thing!
Students can meet, ask questions, and have books signed by their favorite authors! The festival comes back next year after a year off due to COVID- watch what you can expect in this amazing festival video- LibraryPalooza
