Floresville ISD recognized bus driver Henry Bailey as he was named 2022-2023 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year by Property Casualty Alliance of Texas (PCAT).
Every year, school districts across Texas select an exceptional bus driver based on attributes such as leadership, attitude, perseverance, student and parent relationships, and technical skill. After one bus driver is selected at each participating district, PCAT honors a small group of outstanding drivers with the Regional Bus Drivers of the Year designation, representing an even higher level of achievement. From that group, the Statewide Bus Driver of the Year recognition is awarded to only one driver and represents the highest level of dedication and accomplishment.
Mr. Bailey was selected as the one and only Statewide Bus Driver of the Year out of over 1,000 nominees. He has been a staff member of Floresville ISD since August 2020 and is known as a jack-of-all-trades. He is described as a dedicated and selfless driver who is always willing to help others and volunteer. Mr. Bailey is recognized by his peers as an inspiration and a joy to work with.
“In a short timeframe, he has learned to master the operation of a school bus, routes, and does countless extracurricular events. He also fuels buses, leads our bus washes, [and] volunteers at the campuses and security offices,” said Mary A. Aaron, Floresville ISD Director of Transportation. “His positive and consistent demeanor with students and parents is welcoming and he represents the district and department in a professional manner.”
Mr. Bailey was presented with a $1,000 check, a Bus Driver of the Year 20-oz. tumbler, a Bus Driver of the Year tote, a commendation, and an engraved plaque from the PCAT Bus Driver of the Year program. A plaque commemorating Mr. Bailey’s achievement was also awarded to Floresville ISD.
