Southside ISD BBQ Team showed off their grilling skills and placed 6th in a BBQ National Championship!
The Cardinal Cookers had a chance to compete at the National High School BBQ National Championship at the Texas State Technical College in Hutto, Texas. The students competed against 50 other teams from all around Texas, as well as Missouri and Florida.
The students placed 6th in the Steak Taco Division of the competition with Wagyu Steak cooked by student Nikko Garcia. Aside from steak tacos, the team had an assortment of food prepared for the other divisions within the competition. Samatha Garcia made S’mores cake in the Dutch Oven Division, Dacee Vela cooked pork chops, Maverick Vela prepared chicken and boneless pork butt and Zach Ramos cooked ribs along with his specialty dish, ceviche. Ramos’s specialty dish was prepared for the Special Ingredients Competition, which included the special ingredient, bologna.
