NEISD Student on Field by Quarter, Podium by Half-Time
Facebook photo highlights success of North East High School Student’s simultaneous roles as a football player and drum major.
Dedicated North East ISD junior, Carson Zimmerman took on the “unheard of” role of pursuing both his interests at MacArthur High School. Carson’s story surfaced through a Facebook photo showing him conducting the marching band while wearing his football uniform, proving that it is possible to succeed in doing both and doing them well. 6yhhgt
Making it Possible
Before becoming one of MacArthur’s three drum majors, Carson played the corner defensive back position on the football team as well as the saxophone with the marching band during half-time. Though fearing the unacceptance of head coach Kevin Hirst and band director Hector Trevino in taking part in both programs, Zimmerman states that his teachers have been entirely supportive. Time management and communication skills have allowed the rewarding success of Carson’s versatility.
MacArthur encourages their students to take part in as many things as they can. Carson’s inspiring story has reflected that goal. The idea has become a part of the interview process for the high school, and an even bigger part of the experience for their students!
